Important Canadian firms involved in the revival of Canada-Algeria Business Alliance

 

The Canada-Algeria Business Alliance, which was founded in 2004 but which has never been operational, has just been revived at the initiative of a group leader of important Canadian companies with the support of the Embassy of Algeria in Canada.

Indeed, a meeting was held on July 16 in Montreal, and helped lay the foundations for a genuine rebirth of this alliance, which reaffirmed on the occasion, its objective to contribute to the development of economic exchanges, and the promotion of investment and partnership with Algeria.

The meeting held in the presence of the Ambassador of Algeria in Canada, Mr. Smail Benamara, brought together the presidents and vice-presidents of the following companies:

-- Rio-Tinto Alcan;

-- Talisman Energy INC Calgary;

-- Bombardier Aerospace;

-- Dessau;

-- MMM Group of Toronto;

-- SNC Lavalin;

-- Tecsult;

-- Cordiant Capital;

As well as representatives of 2 important Canadian law firms namely, the Honourable Gar Knutson, former Minister and Attorney of "Borden Ladner Gervais" and the Honourable Denis Paradis, former minister and bâtonnier of Dunton-Rainville Law firm.

The participants to this meeting have agreed to revive the Canada-Algeria Business Alliance (CABA), by conducting an extensive membership campaign and contributing to better information on the important potential of partnership offered by the Algerian market Algerian.

They also elaborated an agenda with the organization of study Days in major Canadian cities and the preparation of economic missions to Algeria. The companies’ Representatives have decided to provide the financial support required for launching and developing the activities of this Alliance and agreed on close collaboration with the Algerian and Canadian diplomatic representations in both countries and ensure the reinforcement of Canada’s excellent image in Algeria, and that of Algeria in Canada, by developing a beneficial partnership for both countries.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Benamara congratulated the new executive board members. He stressed that this meeting’s component is a guarantee of the seriousness of this revival and it augurs promising prospects for strengthening and supervision of economic and commercial relations between Algeria and Canada.

The Ambassador recalled that since several years, Algeria is the 1st economic partner of Canada in Africa and the Arab world, with a sales volume of over 5 billion dollars per year.
