Meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and representatives from Canada-Algeria Business Alliance

 

On the fringe of the participation of the Mr. the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, as a special guest at the 12th Summit of La Francophonie, Mr. Mourad Medelci, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has met on 17th October 2008, around a breakfast, a delegation of business leaders and Canadian firms active in Algeria, grouped in the Canada-Algeria Business Alliance (CABC), including, Mr. Denis Belisle, the Alliance’s President and the Honorable Denis Paradis, former Minister, President of bar at Dunton Rainville Cabinet.

The ways and means to strengthen the economic partnership between Canadian and Algerian companies have been at the center of discussions between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and companies’ representatives from CABC, such as Dessau, Tecsult, SNC-Lavalin, Bombardier, CRG Sogema and Rio Tinto Alcan.

On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs gave some information on the Algerian market and urged Canadian companies to permanently settle in Algeria, and explore new areas considered essential for development and partnership between the two countries, including the fields of insurance, banking and services.

At the end of the discussions, it was agreed that a study day on the Algerian economy and opportunities for economic partnership between Canadian companies and Algerian enterprises be organized in Canada as soon as possible.

This day to be attended by heads of public economic agencies and the Algerian business community from the private sector will enable them to both get in touch with Canadian business leaders and present the potential of this economic partnership that Algeria presents.
