Canadian Senator Marcel Prud'homme, Honorary Doctor of the University of Algiers |
The board of University "Benyoucef Benkhedda" of Algiers, has decided to award the Honorary Doctorate to Canadian Senator Marcel Prud’homme, P.C.
The official award ceremony will take place at the lecture theater of the Central Faculty of Algiers, in April 20th, 2008, in the presence of political, diplomatic, parliamentary invitees as well as academics and students.
The University of Algiers has decided to honor the Senator for his exceptional career within the Canadian Parliament, of which he is the Dean. After his election eight times at the House of Commons from 1964 to 1993, he has been member of the Senate since 1993 to this date.
Besides the richness and the longevity of his presence at the Parliament, Mr. Prud’homme, P.C., has represented Canada in various inter-parliamentary and international meetings, where he defended Canadian values of tolerance, dialogue and humanism.
This distinction will consecrate his commitment in favor of cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy as well as his work of rapprochement and dialogue among people, and his defense of human rights.
It also pays tribute to his role for over four decades, in favor of strengthening the Algerian-Canadian friendship and Arab-Canadian in general.
It is worthy to underline that this distinction comes few weeks after the signing ceremony in Algiers, of an agreement between the University of Algiers and the University of Ottawa, from which Senator Prud’homme, P.C., is one of its illustrious graduate.
